Terminology in the massage profession is important. In particular, people outside of the profession commonly misuse two terms.

The first is masseuse. This term is outdated and confusing. Masseuse is French for a woman who does massage and is not ever used to describe a male. It’s an archaic term that often refers to a sex worker.

The term Massage Therapist was adopted decades ago for people who perform professional massage. Eliminating the word masseuse from your vocabulary is recommended.

The second misused term is bed. A massage table should never be referred to as a bed. It sends the wrong message.
